OMNIBUS (FARES) REGULATIONS 2024
BR 68 / 2024
section 9 of the Public Transportation Act 1951, makes the following Regulations:
Citation
1 These Regulations may be cited as the Omnibus (Fares) Regulations 2024.
Interpretation
2 In these Regulations—
“adult” means a person of or above the age of 18 years;
“authorized agent” includes a postmaster or postmistress, or an agent or vendor who is authorized by the Minister, in writing, to issue fare media;
“Bermudian” means a person who possesses Bermudian status under the Bermuda Immigration and Protection Act 1956;

“child” means a person who has attained the age of five years but has not attained the age of 18 years;
“concession card” means a card or an electronic voucher displayed by a senior or special person in respect of any journey;
“Department” means the Department of Public Transportation;
“electronic ticket” means an electronic voucher displayed on a mobile device by an intending passenger in respect of any journey;
“monthly pass” means a pass for the duration of a month;
“multi-day pass” means a pass for the duration of less than a month in respect of any journey;
“omnibus” has the meaning given in the Motor Car Act 1951;
“pass” means a card or electronic voucher displayed by an intending passenger in respect of any journey;
“quarterly pass” means a pass for the duration of three months;
“school” means any school or other educational institution registered by the Minister responsible for education;
“senior” means a person of or above the age of 65 years who is resident in Bermuda;
“special person” means a person who satisfies the Minister that he is suffering from a disability, whether physical or otherwise, which hinders him from embarking on or disembarking from an omnibus unaided;
“student” means a person bona fide attending any school on a full-time basis as a pupil or student;
“student pass” means a card or electronic voucher in respect of any journey, issued to—
(a) a student in school in Bermuda; or
(b) a Bermudian who is not above the age of 18 and who is a student overseas;
“ticket” means a ticket or a hard copy voucher that contains a valid machine- readable code displayed by an intending passenger in respect of any journey;
“token” means a metal disc or an electronic voucher used by an intending passenger in respect of any journey;
“transfer pass” means a hard copy voucher or an electronic voucher which entitles the holder to transfer from one omnibus to another in order to complete a journey;
“zone”, in respect of a route, means a subdivision of that route of approximately two miles in length delimited by the Department.

Fare media
3 The fare media for an omnibus shall be—
(a) cash;
(b) a credit card, which may be used on an omnibus by an intending passenger in respect of a journey;
(c) a debit card, which may be used on an omnibus by an intending passenger in respect of a journey;
(d) an electronic ticket issued by the Department or an authorized agent;
(e) a concession card issued by the Department or an authorized agent;
(f) a ticket issued by the Department or an authorized agent;
(g) a pass issued by the Department or an authorized agent;
(h) a token issued by the Department or an authorized agent.
Omnibus fares
4 Fares for the carriage of passengers on an omnibus shall be as provided in the
Schedule — .
Saving
5 A form of ticket used as fare prior to the coming into operation of these Regulations shall be considered a ticket in respect of a journey on an omnibus under these Regulations for a period of time to be determined by the Minister by notice published in the Gazette.
Revocation
6 The Government Omnibus (Fares) Regulations 1952 are revoked.
